C# vs. Java, Part 1

I've been wanting to create a new app for some time now. I wanted the app to run on the desktop and thus was really leaning toward using C# and the Microsoft Visual Studio to develop it.

The reason why I leaned toward C# was that I'm much more comfortable and knowledgable with that language. I worked with it extensively in college and in my first full time programming position. I began to research the necessary software needed and soon realized that unless I was willing to pay, I couldn't legally develop in C#. Still, I really loved Microsoft's Visual Studio, and considered making the plunge. That was until I discovered that there is an IDE for Java called NetBeans. I am planning on downloading and installing it today. Oh, did I mention it's free? We'll see how it compares to VS. I have high hopes though. Who knows, this may convert me to Java for the long run.
