This article pertains to Windows Mail and Outlook Express 6 Data. This article does not tell you how to create a backup, but how to more easily backup your email message using the procedure set forth in our previous article: Schedule Your Backups.
In our previous article Schedule Your Backups we advised that you "Have One Location You Backup From". In that one location, create a Folder for backing up your emails.
When in Windows Mail, go to Tools->Options. In the dialog that
opens, go to the Advanced tab. From there, click on the
Maintenance button. Then, click on the Store Folder...
button. In the dialog that opens you will see the current path
where your email is stored. You can change this path to the
folder you just created by clicking the Change... button.
The procedure for performing this in Outlook Express 6 is pretty
much the same. Go to Tools->Options, click on Maintenance,
click on Store Folder....
If you've changed the path to the new folder you may have to copy your old email files to the new path (if you have any old email files) and make sure your email client finds them alright.
Now, if you follow the advice of our Schedule Your Backups article and backup your entire folder, the emails will be backed up as well, making your backup easier than having to hunt and search for your email files for every backup.
